Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30am to 3:30pm

30 hrs/week, $25.00/hr

Start Date: June 28th, 2019

The Alberta Growers’ Flower Market is seeking a talented and focused individual for the role of Marketing & Communications Coordinator.

 

The Alberta Growers' Flower Market provides farm fresh, Alberta-grown cut blooms to florists and flower lovers in and around Calgary. Ultimately, we aim to support and supply growers and flower folk throughout Alberta. 

 

We support small scale Alberta growers who practice sustainable and earth-friendly growing methods. We help our customers understand which flowers are in season when, how to keep their flowers fresh, and we embrace the fact that nothing gold can stay. We want to help the public understand local flowers; where they come from, how they're grown, and how they reflect the unique beauty of Alberta's seasons.

 

We are a seasonal market, selling fresh flowers and foliage throughout Alberta’s brief growing season. We continue to sell holiday greens, trees, and dried product throughout the winter months, and marketing the value and beauty of dried and preserved product is a priority within this position.

 

Key responsibilities of this position will include:

 

  • Working with the Flower Market Manager and Flower Market Owner to create marketing and communications strategies tailored to each season.

  • Regular social media updates featuring our product, messaging, members, community collaborations, market news and every day happenings, etc.

  • Regular website updates regarding featured members, sales, news, events, workshops, etc.

  • General website maintenance (SEO, keywords, etc).

  • Writing copy for our website, social media, newsletter, and for various marketing and advertising campaigns.

  • Creating and distributing weekly newsletters to our growers and public subscribers.

  • Creating social media and traditional media advertising campaigns within set budgets.

  • Developing and maintaining a media contact list, reaching out to media when our strategies require it.

  • Fielding media requests and queries.

  • Taking day-to-day photos of our space, product, workshops, etc, to be used in our marketing materials.

 

Qualifications of our ideal candidate:

 

  • 2+ years professional (paid) experience working in marketing and communications.

  • Demonstrable experience creating marketing and communications strategies, ie: launch strategies and advertising campaigns.

  • Experience working with WIX, Adobe Lightroom, InDesign, Acrobat, and a competent familiarity with digital media software and web platforms.

  • A talent for, and interest in, photography.

  • Experience creating and distributing newsletters.

  • Familiarity with Calgary and area’s media networks, some personal connections to Southern Alberta media journalists, editors, reporters, etc.

  • Strong social media skills and a clear understanding of social media within the context of branding and business.

 

Assets to be considered:

 

  • A degree in marketing and/or communications.

  • Professional photography experience.

  • Portfolio demonstrating a keen talent for marketing and advertising.

  • Floriculture experience or a long-term passion for gardening.

  • Professional writing experience.
